Top 10 favorite films

Crooked Timber pointed me to a poll on Norman Geras’s weblog: what are your top 10 all-time favorite films? Here’s what I submitted (accents and formatting modified from the original, otherwise unchanged):

  • Amélie (Jeunet)
  • Citizen Kane (Welles) (It may be clichéd to put this in a best-of list, but it really is one of my favorites. The DVD edition with Roger Ebert’s commentary is particularly illuminating.)
  • Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick)
  • Manhattan (Woody Allen)
  • Man Without A Past, The” (Kaurismaki)
  • Network (Lumet)
  • North By Northwest (Hitchcock)
  • Rear Window (Hitchcock)
  • Talk To Her (Almodóvar)
