Andy Rooney
It’s been years since I’ve watched 60 Minutes, but right now it’s playing in the adjoining room. I used to love it. Right now I hear Andy Rooney speaking, and it’s driving me nuts. He’s making a point that I agree with — “isn’t it annoying that advertisements play before movies in theatres?” — but his voice saying it is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. I wonder why I used to like this guy.
One of the things about Andy Rooney that I can never stand is his voice. His writing, however, is pretty good and to-the-point.
Recently the Haverhill Library had an old books sale, you know, one of those fill a bag with books for 2 bucks deals, and I picked up a couple of his older books. They actually made some fascinating reading, as one was from the Reagan era, and the other was toward the beginning of the Clinton years. He’s no Oscar Wilde, but he’s engaging and makes his views at least interesting to read, with some humor thrown in too.
You just need to get past his voice.
